The following Magical Decrees are split into 2 catergories; The Golden Decrees and the RP Decrees.
If you are wishing to Roleplay at any time here at MM, you are expected to read all of the Decrees in this post.
If you don't want to roleplay, please go to the 'Muggle Decrees', but if you change your mind in the future and decide you want to try roleplaying, you must come back to here. Thank you

Golden Decrees: These are the most sacred decrees of Malfoy Mansion. Everyone must respect them, and follow them with their utmost concentration. Breaking of the Golden Decrees is serious and will likely result in account suspension or banning depending on the severity of your offences. Staff are not exempt from any rules and most are rules that you will find at any forum.

The Admin of any forum is responsible for making sure their board and its members are abiding by their hosts' Terms of Service (ToS). If the board breaks the ToS, it will get deleted by Proboards staff. So please read it. Thank you.

Posts about Deathly Hallows that have spoilers are to be kept to the 'Deathly Discussions' subboard only, along with the word 'Spoiler' in the thread title. There is a general spoiler warning in the side table but please still observe this request anyway. If the thread isn't best suited to the'Deathly Discussions' please put a spoiler warning in thread titles to post somewhere else.

There is no place here on the board for you to advertise for joins for your own forum, roleplay or non-roleplay, at the moment. This includes in signature links and PMs. It is forbidden to PM members on Malfoy Mansion to ask them to join another forum. Also - please do not contact MM members on Instant Messenging programmes or email with the aim of 'hard-sell' to your own forum.
However you MAY do the following:
a) Put a link in your profile in the 'website' field and leave it at that. If someone is curious and wants to look at your member profile, they will see the link. There is no need to point it out in anyway.
b) Submit an affiliation form via PM or email to Draco. Please see the Affiliating thread.
NB. IF the site is not a forum and you think it may be of interest to the others, please post it in the Fountain of Knowledge or the most appropriate section of 'Foolish Wand Waving' and do not use persuasive advertising language.

Please read MM's Full Copyright Statement for more information about this. Ignorance is not an excuse! If you are found to have copied anything without permission, you are very likely to be banned from Malfoy Mansion.

Abusive behaviour and language and disrepect for staff and other members is not tolerated, even just a teensy bit. We do not 'do' flaming here, neither is abusing another member acceptable. You can have a lively debate and have a friendly banter, but if things get serious you will be told to take it to PMs and admin/nominated Moderator will act as peacemaker. Any abusive behaviour will result in suspension and/or banning depending on the severity of the offence. You are not allowed to deliberately 'ignore' staff requests. If you repeatedly ignore staff requests, you will be suspended. Admin's decision is always final.

If you have a broken link in your avatar and/or signature, you may find it deleted or replaced. A broken link can delay page loading since the browser takes more time searching for the missing image. This slows the board down for everyone. Please report any broken links to a Moderator if you see one, or fix them immediately if they are ones from your account. Thank you.

Avoid typing anywhere in 'text talk'. Also abbreviations such as 'lol', 'wtf' and 'omg' should be used in Non-RP sections only. Please use the spell checker and write clearly, with correct punctuation and coherently as best as you can. Your posts need to be easily understood and need some thought put into them.

If it becomes apparent through your posts and behaviour that you are not old enough or mature enough to be here, and we suspect you are not the age you put down when you registered an account here, we reserve the right to cease your access to the forum. We will always try to notify you in this case. Under 18s should get parental permission to be here and under 13yrs old shouldn't even bother signing up.

RP Decrees

If you are not interested in any of our spare canon characters, then you may apply for a non-canon (original) character. The process is simple. You fill out an application and a member of staff will either approve it or reject it. We will always give a reason for rejection and make suggestions on what will make your application successful and you can re-submit. Once you have approval, you must go on to make a full character profile BEFORE you start RP.
IMPORTANT - If you start RPing without a full and complete profile without prior permission from a member of staff, then you will find your Rp posts deleted without warning.

To claim a canon character, make sure it is spare by viewing our spare canon character list here. If it is free, change your Display name to it and then submit a Character Profile.
-You cannot 'hog' a canon. If you are no longer active without giving staff any notice, you may find your canon taken over because we need them for a storyline. We will try to notify you by email or PM to one of your other accounts if this happens. If you have not RPed as your canon character in 2 months, you may find your group changed and your canon character either taken over by someone else or placed back onto the spare canon list. You can then either reclaim it, or choose another character to play if you come back.

Malfoy Mansion is not a ParaRP, but we offer some flexibility with posting styles. We also like our one-liners when the moment calls for them and therefore there is no min post limit as long as your level of RP is good and you put in some kind of effort in most of your posts. We ask that no post is excessively long. We have adopted the Asterisk style of RP as our House style of posting. Occasionally we even have a group of 12 or more all rping in one thread and nobody really wants to sit around and wait half an hour for a reply to a post while someone writes a paragraph when we could all be having a dynamic and fast-paced roleplay session in Asterisk.
We do understand that everyone has their own style of roleplaying, and you can write in paragraphs if you are only playing in a thread with one other person, or if it is the very first post of the thread. However you MUST write in the 3rd person and in the present tense. That is the one thing we do enforce.
-The standard here is to write 'action points' or descriptions inside asterisks in the 3rd person. (ie. *he raises his glass*) but you can post in any way as long as it's clear what is speech and what is action/description.

Multiple accounts are allowed but you must ask Draco BEFORE registering another account. Max of 3 accounts are allowed by non staff members. If you are very active, you may be allowed more. You must try to rotate them all evenly and have at least 1 canon account per 3 accounts.

Because the board is run from the UK, a 'live' roleplay is played in GMT. This means even if it's morning for you, it may be late afternoon for the rest of the players. You may find you'll have to adjust your RP so that you're playing in the same time zone as England. To help you, make sure your time zone on your profile is set to 'GMT 0 Greenwich Meantime'. Some threads are played 'live' and some just roll over to the next day or even week. Please look out for the icon next to the topic title. If it is a live thread, you cannot log off and leave your character hanging there as this halts play or makes things a little awkward for the others, or you may just get left behind!

Feel free to initiate a storyline but please run it by admin or a Moderator first if it's a major one. We welcome suggestions and ideas for stories, just PM us and we will try to work something out for you.
Storylines that need prior approval by admin includes:
Any deaths, canon or non canon,
Engagements/marriages,
Pregnancies,
Serious illnesses/injuries,
Imprisonment,
Invasions/major attacks/mass attacks,
Any story that profoundly affects other characters.
Please do not go ahead with any of these before approval, or you may find your posts edited/deleted without warning and you having to backtrack on your story.
Also - you must read the main plot as this will affect how your character acts and give you some direction.

Please avoid using *apparates* or *walks in* as a thread title. It's really too common and becomes impractical if you are doing a search for a thread. Try and think of a mood or a title or your aim. (ie. A lonely night, A midnight stroll, Looking for some wine etc) - like you would title a chapter of a book. Please also make use of the topic icons when you make a new topic, so that others can see what kind of RP it is. If the thread is only directed at certain characters, please place their names in brackets in the topic title and use the appropriate icon.

If something important happens in your thread (someone makes an important revelation, arrives for the first time, leaves, has a big fight, gets injured, etc) please put the thread title, a brief outline and the link in The Pensieve so that people can read up on it easily. You can also submit 'news' of happenings in the RP (an attack, a raid etc) to The Daily Prophet and it will be reported in the headlines.

We 'play' in the time after book 6 and will be playing to our own storyline and not playing exactly what happens in book 7, though some of it may be similar. The main characters that have deceased in book 6 are deceased here too and so on. You might find some characters are released from Azkaban and some things have changed slightly from canon storyline for the benefit of more interesting RP. Please read the MM Storylines section for more info. We have no weird shippings or odd freakish non-canon things going on either - we do change some things but we try and keep it believable.

Please do not roleplay violence that is too graphic, gruesome or horror/slasher movie-like. Use magic to hurt and injure - evil hexes/curses and such. You are civilized (mostly) wizards and witches, not cavemen or twisted mass-murderers (The latter is reserved for Lord Voldemort :mark:) Please study the spells lists to keep them fresh in your mind.

If you have to roleplay sexual encounters, please keep it as suggested and implied using subtlety. It must be consensual. If you want to be more 'detailed' or less censored, please take it to the PMs. Please keep it PG13 on the boards.

This board could be seen as a predominantly 'Slytherin' based site, with emphasis on the Malfoys, but everyone is welcome! To get maximum RP potential out of the site, we suggest you choose/create a character who is either on the good side or the bad side, rather than neutral. You may hold accounts to both a good side character and a bad side character so that you get to play with more people. Please also RP with a sense of humour and don't take yourself too seriously - we can promise you it's much more fun.

Some boards have password-access, like the Hogwarts Common Rooms. You can only get a password you need by PMing a moderator or admin. Once you receive a password, you must never give it out to another member, even if you think they should be allowed access to the section.

We are an English board and HP is English, therefore efforts must be made to avoid Americanisms and spellings that would not otherwise appear in the books. Some words mean different things and therefore might confuse in RP. eg. 'He burnt a hole in his pants' here means his underpants, not his trousers. This includes colloquial slang from any English region or other countries (unless it features in the books) because it might not be understood by the others. (Please remember things like pubs in England are not the same as pubs in US. There are no waiter/waitresses in the pubs in HP, and you have to order your drink at the bar) Please see the Britpicking topic (found in The Fountain of Knowledge) for more info.
If you want to write a sentence or a few words in a different language, please provide a translation in brackets.

Avatars and signatures
-Avatars must be a photographic representation of your character according to the description you gave them in your profile. We are sorry, but do not allow you to use internationally-known A-list celebs for your character. We do not have a 'celeb claim' as such because you will be told if your chosen celeb is unsuitable when you put up your avatar. Some celebrities may be allowed if they suit your character and the site - and there is a pre-approved celeb list for you to choose from. Canons are encouraged to use the actors cast in the HP movies. Please request an avatar in the Graphics Requests section if you are stuck trying to find one.

-Max Avatar size is 4.8cm width by 7cm height at 72dpi. (136 x 198 pixels) The picture of your character must be clear and have a dark background and not be a cartoon/illustration if they are human.
You can use this as a template:

The auto-resize is turned off, so your AV picture must be resized before you upload it.

-Your signature must be a horizontal banner or pic that represents something to do with your character or another pic of your character. If you make it too big, we will resize it or request you to do it. If you are making one yourself, please use the staff's sig sizes for examples.

The absolute maximum size for a sig banner is 20 cm width x 6cm height . (567 x 170 pixels at 72dpi)

We prefer you use a 5cm x 18cm size.

-You can use any graphics in the graphics Library for your sigs/miniprofile backgrounds as long as it suits your character.

-If you want to request an AV/Sig, please visit the Graphics Request area.

-Please do not put more than a few words of text in your signature if you are a roleplayer. It's distracting when trying to read a rp thread.
-Please do not have overly flashing sigs or AVs as it can trigger epileptic fits in some people. Animated is fine as long as it is slow and not overdone.

-If you are using your own Miniprofile background, it needs to be dark and knocked back in contrast so that it blends in with the skin and you can read text over the top. There is a MP BG library in the Graphics Library section, please pick one that suits your character if you want one.

- so that staff know you have read them. If we don't see a reply from you after signing up and posting, a member of staff will keep asking you to read the Decrees until your post in this thread has been made.

Thank you for reading the Decrees. We realise it is alot of info but we hope it is useful for you. If you consistantly break the decrees, we will ask you to re-read them and give you a warning. If you break them again after being warned, we will suspend you from MM. You will not be able to get by on this board without following the decrees you are about to sign. Please also read the other threads in this section as you may find them useful.
